Simple Meditation and Breathing Techniques

relax and restore your mind, body, & spirit
There is clear evidence that daily stress can significantly contribute to a lack of physical health and mental clarity. With our busy lives there is constant stress and unless we take care of this we run the risk of holding the accumulated the effects of stress in our bodies. This will over time cause tiredness, lack of focus, irritability, anxiety, poor breathing, insomnia, depression, and many more symptoms.
Whenever we encounter a stressful event, our bodies under go a series of involuntary hormonal and biochemical changes. This automatic stress response, also called the fight or flight reaction, puts our bodies in alarm mode, heart rate speeds up breath becomes shallow, muscles tense and our digestive and immune systems temporarily slows down. The stress response is helpful in true emergency situations, but when it’s activated on a frequent basis it puts strain on both mind and body.
No one can avoid all stress, but you can counteract it by learning how to evoke the relaxation response, a state of deep rest that is the polar opposite of the stress response. The relaxation response brings your system back into balance reducing stress hormones, slowing down your muscles and organs and increasing blood flow to the brain.
"Regular meditation and proper breathing are two of the easiest, simplest and
most powerful ways to improve our health"

BREATHING
- Breathing supplies the body and all of its various tissues with oxygen; it also helps to rid the body of waste products and toxins.
70% of the toxin in the body are released through our Breath!
- Oxygen is essential for our bodies as it allows for the proper functioning of the brain, nerves, glands and other internal organs. We can last for days without food or water but only a few minutes without oxygen.
- The brain requires more oxygen than any other bodily organ and if it is deficient, you may feel mentally sluggish, think negative thoughts, be depressed, and even suffer from vision or hearing problems in the long term.
- Breath is also the balance between our body and mind, the conscious /unconscious and the sympathetic/parasympathetic nervous system.

MEDITATION
The physiological effects of Meditation have been well studied and documented, many concepts of meditation have been applied to clinical settings in order to measure its effect on somatic motor function as well as cardiovascular and respiratory function.
Meditation has long ago entered the mainstream of health care as a method of stress and pain reduction, it has been shown to affect the human metabolism by lowering the biochemical by products of stress, such as lactate, decreasing heart rate and blood pressure and inducing favourable brain waves.
Meditation can also provide wonderful support for a depressed immune system during times of chronic illness.
Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years by a variety of different cultures and there are many different variations. What I will teach you is a couple of simple techniques that you can use everyday, in the office, at home, on the train, anyway you can sit and stop for 10 to 20 minutes
